The 4th Annual Prajnya Intercollegiate Quiz on Women in South Asia took place at Queen Mary’s College Hall yesterday. IIT Madras took first place, winning the trophy. Meenakshi College came second and Queen Mary’s third. First and second place winners got Landmark vouchers worth Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 respectively. Everyone got certificates.
RJ Maya of Suryan FM was quizmaster in the preliminary round and RJ Sano of Chennai Live 104.8 in the final round. Thanks to you both for your support!
Our guest of honour was Salma, poet, writer and activist. Salma also read at our Campaign Poetry reading and we were so happy she could make the time to come for the quiz.
We had another special guest, Vasantha Ramakrishnan, who was the first person we interviewed for our LifeStories Project and who is an ex-student of Queen Mary’s. She gave mementos to Sano and Salma (Maya left earlier).
The questions in the quiz ranged across subjects as varied as literature and art, business and politics to sports and science, always placing the spotlight on women–as achievers, as subjects, as catalysts, as anchors. Participants and audience members remarked that it was an eye-opening experience–they had not realised how ignorant we are when it comes to what women have contributed. Thank you to all those who contributed questions: Venkat Ananth, Hamsini Ravi, K.Sahasranaman, Vasughi and Priya Raju.
Finally, some photos of the Prajnya Team that was at the quiz:
