Women’s midriffs and women’s agency


At Prajnya, we have always believed that women have been and are agents of political and social change. Now we have evidence from Nigeria, where women’s choice of midriff-baring dress is being blamed for corruption, socio-economic decline, immorality and political problems.

Now it is perfectly clear to us why India’s problems are so great. Shroud women in cloth from top to toe and men can be kept on the path of personal and public virtue.

What is it about the human race that in the face of all manner of survival challenges, we hurtle surely from one kind of lunacy to another?
