Harsimrat Kaur Badal is the wife of Punjab deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal and the sister of former minister Bikram Singh Majithia. She is also the founder patron of `Nanhi Chhaan’ an initiative that works against female foeticide, as well as protection of the environment. Saying it is a sin to indulge in feticide as the Sikh Gurus were strictly against such actions, Ms.Kaur wants proper initiatives to be taken towards this eradicating this evil. Asserting that dowry is the root cause of female foeticide, she appeals that society should get rid of this evil. A strong advocate of increasing social awareness and instilling a sense of environmental resonsibility, Ms.Kaur feels that declining tree cover is also a cause of great environmental concern as it would make development ecologically unsustainable.
