A first time contestant, Helen Davidson is the only woman MP from Tamil Nadu. A political green horn, her success probably largely had to do with the fact that Catholic churches in Kanyakumari have openly declared Helen Davidson, who is also a Catholic, as their favoured candidate. This 37 year old mother of two beat Sivagami of the Bahujan Samaj Party, a former IAS officer with a proven track record.
